Days Suitable for Fieldwork per State – USDA 2nd April 2023

The first Crop Progress report by USDA in 2023 shows numbers that are shocking for some main grain States in Days Suitable for Fieldwork. I cannot recall such small numbers in years.

Below is a map with a simple breakdown: States with 4 or more Days of Fieldwork and one with less than 4 days.

I will write some of the numbers here:

  • North Dakota with 0.2! This state is the main producer of soybean (7.5% of planting area) and wheat (12.7% of planting area).
  • South Dakota with 0.8! This state is the main producer of corn (6.4% of planting area) and soybean (6.1% of planting area).
  • Montana with 1.0! This state is the main producer of wheat (10.7% of planting area).
  • Ohio with 1.3! This state is the main producer of soybean (5.8% of planting area).
  • Iowa with 1.6! This state is the main producer of corn (14.2% of planting area) and soybean (11.5% of planting area).
  • Indiana with 1.7! This state is the main producer of soybean (6.4% of planting area) and corn (6.0% of planting area).
  • Illinois with 1.7! This state is the main producer of corn (12.0% of planting area) and soybean (12.3% of planting area).
  • Missouri with 3.0! This state is the main producer of soybean (6.9% of planting area).
